The Perfect Girly Winter Day to Relax #fancywintertale

“Summertime sadness” ? More like Wintertime sadness… As the days get shorter and darker, one finds him/herself feeling tired and exhausted. If you think that this so called “winter blues” is just a minor problem, you are wrong because it is a disorder that is worthy of clinical treatments. If there is no sunlight “around” to increase our serotonin levels, we need to boost that serotonin on our own! Just recently, I learned about this danish word “hygge” which can be defined as “taking pleasure in the little things” or as a “constant strive for happiness” and “creating positive atmospheres”. In my opinion, the best way to get into a positive mood and to enjoy the holiday season is to use the weekends to relax and create your personal “hygge” atmosphere. For me, the perfect way to relax can be described as the “perfect girly winter day”. So, come in, follow me around my day and let me introduce you to the small pleasures of life that will sweeten your day for sure!
1. Girly Winter Day: Cozy Clothes
I usually pick out something cute and comfy that will keep me warm throughout the day. A cozy jumper or sweater is the perfect choice if you want to treat yourself at home for one day. My favorite pink sweaters, for example, do not only look fabulous, but keep me incredibly warm on these cold winter days. The first one is a “off the shoulder knit jumper” and the second pick is a “V neck oversized sweater”. However, I know people that keep the temperature in their home at 86ºF all year long and if you are one of these people, you should probably go for something with a more airy texture, like your favorite robe. My all time favorites are the Victoria’s Secret robes with their silky satin fabric. Another option would be to simply put on your favorite onesie.
“If you don’t keep your feet warm you’ll freeze no matter how warm your outfit is and eventually, you will get sick!”, said every mother in existence. Strangely, my mother was right all the time! Feet do have a big impact on the body’s temperature. Therefore, make sure to prepare for your cozy day by putting on a pair of cozy socks or slippers.
2. Girly Winter Day: Cozy Atmosphere
Here are some hacks and tips that will help you to keep your bedroom extra comfy!
Add some extra blankets and pillows on your bed to prepare for your cozy day to do absolutely nothing!
Fairy lights make even the darkest places look magical
Decorate your room with some scented candles and let that amazing smell fill your home. If you are not a fan of candles or already have a fireplace to light up, you should try out a natural room spray. I bought a rose scented one in Turkey and the best thing about it is that it does not contain any chemicals.
Buy yourself some real flowers to bring the nature inside your four walls
Always have a few books that you haven’t read, yet. I get so excited every time I start a new book and once I fall in love with it, I never want it to end!
Stuffed Animals! It may sound childish, but I do not want to know how this world would look like, if everyone were to loose their inner child.
Did you know that there are a lot of psychological reasons which explain our love for teddy bears? 3. Girly Winter Day: Do what you LOVE
I choose to do something that I absolutely love and so should you. Go out for a walk, draw something or, if you own your own blog, work on it. On days like this, I avoid studying for my exams because this will only make me remember all that stress I am trying to recover myself from.
4. Girly Winter Day: Take care of your Body & Skin
Your body is, besides your soul, your most priceless possession. You should take care of it!
- Take a bubble bathe!
- Cleanse your face and use a face mask!
- Use a peeling and moisturize your skin!
5. Girly Winter Day: Cozy Pyjamas
When it gets dark, I cannot wait to jump into my most comfy jammies, to brush my hair and to get ready for bed. Did you know that there is an actual term for the excessive desire to stay in bed? It is called “clinomania”…which means that I am a clinomaniac. Are you, too?
6. Girly Winter Day: Tea, Sweets & Movies
Make some tea and buy yourself some treats. Now, cuddle with you stuffed animals (maybe you are lucky enough and have a dog or cat you can cuddle with) and watch your favorite movies. Usually, I watch a lot of horror movies, but for my fancy relaxing days, I prefer my girly all time favorites! The three movies I cannot get enough of are:
- Beauty and the Beast
- Breakfast at Tiffany’s
- Marie Antoinette
7. Girly Winter Day: End the day peacefully
Let go of all that drama and negativity that bothers you! Let go of it or it will drive you insane.I know that it is easier said than done, but I suggest you to keep your very own and personal positive vibes journal. Only write down what makes you happy and what was great about your day. Do not think of all the bad stuff and do not write it down, unless you are someone who can process these things only by conceptualising them.
